United Nations Environmental Programme

Topic: Managing Technological Waste

Established in 1972 following the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, the United Nations Environmental Program is dedicated to its mission to address critical environmental issues in our world. The agency focuses on dealing with issues that impact the quality of life while assuring that future generations are not jeopardized. UNEP works to support and deal with promoting a green economy, using low-carbon resource-efficient economies. Delegates are invited to explore the extensive topics, and then brainstorm modern and sustainable goals that use cutting-edge science and technology. Those can then be implemented to resolve the issue of removing or recycling technological waste, in a way that doesn't harm daily lives, the planet, or the future!

  • Daniel Mun

    DIRECTOR

Daniel is a junior at Woodinville High School and is exhilarated to serve as Director for UNEP! From being intrigued that Model UN has the same name as his last name, Daniel has quickly adored the diverse set of skills MUN provided as well as the intense debates he was able to be a part of. Since then, he has made many unforgettable memories in conferences ranging from running across Seattle to getting back to the committee on time, to spending hours overnight in a hotel room with his friend, preparing speeches for different scenarios that may occur throughout a discussion (they never got to be used). When he’s not in a committee room furiously writing resolutions, Daniel is found playing the piano and cello, destroying people at badminton, or making maps of literally anything. Daniel is overjoyed to be staffing for WAIMUN 2024 and expects everyone to register for UNEP!

  • Amelia Matin

    CHAIR

Amelia Matin is a junior at Liberty High School and is elated to be joining the WAIMUN 2023 staffing team as the UNEP chair. From refusing to speak at MUN for a solid month to becoming one of the loudest members of the club, she quickly fell for the incredible community MUN creates. When not submitting position papers at 11:59, she enjoys lecturing anyone willing to listen on the political situation of the world for hours on end and welcomes controversial topics on everything from international relations to if ketchup is a smoothie (hint: it’s not). In her free time she can be found playing with her 70 pound lab that insists he’s a lap dog, listening to depressing pop music, researching obnoxiously specific topics she will then forget about the following day, or participating in any number of activities solely done to distract herself from the hours of important tasks that are likely due that night. Amelia is eager to meet all of the marvelous UNEP delegates and make 2023 the best iteration of WAIMUN yet!

  • Arushi Keshwani

    ASSISTANT-DIRECTOR

Arushi is a sophomore at Inglemoor High School and is very excited to serve as Assistant Director of UNEP at WAIMUN 2023. Arushi started her MUN journey in freshman year and immediately fell head over heels for MUN. Since then she has attended numerous conferences and made so MUNy memorable memories, whether that be not getting enough sleep at any overnight conference or running back to the venue from lunch a minute before committee sessions start, again (in heels). Outside of MUN (surprisingly she knows), you can find Arushi looking for new musical artists to listen to, hanging out with her dog, or swimming (unfortunately). Arushi can not wait to see all of the amazing delegates in UNEP and hopes everyone is excited for this very environmental conference!!
